The 86-year-old American director confirmed to Le Journal du Dimanche that he is “moving to Paris in September” to shoot his 50th feature film. “It may be the last one,” he added. The two-year-old project, postponed because of Covid-19, will be a two month shoot. “Surprisingly, funding for the film came from the United States, but the already-chosen cast is entirely French and the film will be shot in French”, he told JDD. Although the plot and cast are still being kept under wraps, Allen says “the story will be in the same vein as “Match Point” — a kind of amorous and poisonous thriller.” There is absolutely no reason for Cannes not to select this film for next year’s 76th edition of the festival. Allen has long celebrated his affinity for French culture in his 5+ decade filmography, if his cinematic swan song is indeed a Parisian affair then it’s a fitting one. You also have to wonder which American producer is funding the project, I was under the impression that Allen could only get European funding these days. Regardless, put this one high atop your must-see list for next year. Contribute Hire me
