After “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” was screened, barely anybody was really buzzing about Bassett’s performance as Queen Ramonda. Now we have three influential pundits predicting her to not only get nominated, but, quite possibly, to win the Oscar?! Fat chance. As respected as Bassett is in the industry, her film is not universally liked and the Academy nominating a performance from a Marvel movie seems a little too far-fetched for my liking. I bet these pundits take her off their list in the coming weeks. I decided to go to Gold Derby and look at the consensus from their 40+ “experts”. Lo and behold, Bassett is #11 in their Supporting Actress rankings. That’s more like it. Their top five consists of Jessie Buckley (Women Talking), Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Claire Foy (Women Talking), Hong Chau (The Whale) and Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere). I’m not sold on Foy getting in just yet. Chau gave a better performance in “The Menu.” I also have the sneaking suspicion Curtis might get in instead of Hsu, which would probably result in a severe meltdown on film Twitter. Rounding out the GD top ten are Carey Mulligan (She Said), Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere), Jean Smart (Babylon), Nina Hoss (TÁR) and Thuso Mbedu (The Woman King). Contribute Hire me
