The “cancelled” Golden Globes announced their winners last night from Hollywood without a TV broadcast. The Globes voting body aka the Hollywood Foreign Press Association awarded Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story” and Jane Campion’s “The Power of the Dog” for their respective Best Picture awards (Comedy/Musical and Drama). ”Belfast, the supposed de facto Oscar frontrunner, nabbed just a Screenplay win. On the acting front, with accusations of racism swirling on their good name the last year, the Globes unsurprisingly have their Actor in a Drama award to Will Smith (King Richard) instead of Benedict Cumberbatch. I do wonder if the rumored unvaxxed Smith dodged a bullet with the Globes ceremony being canceled for stars to attend — there was supposed to be a fully vaxxed-requirement this year … Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos) got a boost from the HFPA, winning the Drama Actress award over Kirsten Stewart (Spencer) and Lady Gaga (House of Gucci). Is K-Stew really still the Oscar frontrunner? This is the most unpredictable acting category this year. Rachel Zegler (West Side Story) and Andrew Garfield (Tick, Tick … Boom!” won, respectively, Actress and Actor in a Comedy/Musical. They are both currently #5 on my Oscar predictions. Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Power of the Dog) will most likely win the Oscar for Supporting Actor just as he did at the Globes last night. Whereas, Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) has been such an anomaly for me this awards season as I don’t even think she gave that great of a performance in her film, alas, she nevertheless won the Supporting Actress in a Comedy/Musical trophy last night. At this point, Best Director at the Oscars is Jane Campion’s to lose. She beat fierce competition from Steven Spielberg last night to win the Globe for directing. Contribute Hire me
