I just came across this tweet from Derrickson (dated 12.18) — After being told by a fan that he is destined to become the Kubrick of this generation (what?!) Derickson replies, with humble humility, “Thank you, but that is patently not true. Nolan is on track to becoming the Kubrick of this generation.” Of course, Kubrick is Kubrick, but every generation is bound to ask this question. I wouldn’t choose Nolan, I’ve always seen Paul Thomas Anderson as the heir apparent. However, PTA’s style seems to be a mix of his three cinematic idols (Kubrick, Altman and Demme). Nolan has been clear of his adulation for Kubrick. He even presented at Cannes 2019 a restored version of “2001: A Space Oddyssey.” It’s clear that Nolan’s cold style does take affinity to Kubrick’s. Do you agree with Derrickson? if not, who would be this generation’s Kubrick? Contribute Hire me
