The SAG Ensemble Award (Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture) is good precursor for getting a Best Picture Oscar nomination, at least as far as SAG/AFTRA membership is concerned. That means the stocks of Spike Lee‘s “Da 5 Bloods”, Regina King‘s “One Night in Miami” George C. King‘s “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” Lee Isaac Chung‘s “Minari,” and Aaron Sorkin‘s “The Trial of the Chicago 7” have all risen today. In the solo acting categories: Two, count ‘em two, “Hillbilly Elegy” actresses managed to grab nods. Amy Adams got in for leading actress and Glenn Close for Supporting Actress. The conservative-minded film, which was ridiculed by critics, managed to shock pundits today, who had all but dismissed the film for awards contention last November. Getting snubbed in the acting categories were Zendaya (“Malcolm and Marie”) and Andra Day (“The United States vs. Billie Holiday”) in the Best Leading Actress category. Meanwhile, Amanda Seyfried’s work in “Mank,” which was supposed to not just be nominated, but win the Oscar, was ignored by SAG. This puts a major dent on Seyfried’s golden statuette aspirations. It is now Olivia Colman’s (“The Father”) Oscar to lose in that category. The most glaring omission by SAG, however, was the failure of its members to nominate “Sound of Metal” performer Paul Raci in the Best Supporting Actor category, and, instead, giving an undeserved nomination to Jared Leto for his good, but unremarkable performance in “The Little Things”. It has also not been Delroy Lindo’s week, as his performance in “Da 5 Bloods” has now been ignored by both the Golden Globes and SAG in a span of just a few days. Sag voters did hand a Best Supporting Actor nom to the late Chadwick Boseman as well as a Best Stunt Ensemble nom to Lee’s film. The SAG awards will air on the evening of Sunday, April 4, at 6 pm Pacific (TNT/TBS).Best EnsembleDa 5 BloodsMa Rainey’s Black BottomMinariOne Night in Miami…The Trial of the Chicago 7 Best ActressAmy Adams, Hillbilly ElegyViola Davis, Ma Rainey’s Black BottomVanessa Kirby, Pieces of a WomanFrances McDormand, NomadlandCarey Mulligan, Promising Young Woman Best ActorRiz Ahmed, Sound of MetalChadwick Boseman, Ma Rainey’s Black BottomAnthony Hopkins, The FatherGary Oldman, MankSteven Yeun, Minari Best Supporting ActressMaria Bakalova, Borat Subsequent MoviefilmGlenn Close, Hillbilly ElegyOlivia Colman, The FatherYuh-Jung Youn, MinariHelena Zengel, News of the World Best Supporting ActorSacha Baron Cohen, The Trial of the Chicago 7Chadwick Boseman, Da 5 BloodsDaniel Kaluuya, Judas and the Black MessiahJared Leto, The Little ThingsLeslie Odom Jr., One Night in Miami Best Stunt EnsembleDa 5 BloodsMulanNews of the WorldThe Trial of the Chicago 7Wonder Woman 1984 Contribute Hire me
