Mona Fastvold’s “The World to Come” is a sapphic romance that, quite painstakingly, tries to not veer towards melodrama. Vanessa Kirby (Tally) and Katherine Waterston (Abigail) give performances that aren’t showy, but exude a world of emotions — this is a film that heavily focuses on stares and unsaid words. It is semi-successful as a drama because it avoids the trappings of the usual yearn-filled romance by deliberately underplaying its emotions....

El Universal [via The Film Stage] is reporting that the director is currently scouting locations and doing camera tests in Mexico City for a new project. Cinematographer Bradford Young (Arrival, A Most Violent Year) has been seen with Inarritu at these locations. While no specific details on the title, cast or plot are known yet, the Mexican outlet is reporting that the cast was “dressed in ‘90s clothes” and that Iñárritu and Young were seen at Chapultepec Castle and in the historic center of Mexico City....

Aster has mentioned in the past that a few of his favorite scenes went to the cutting room floor: “There were a lot of scenes that were cut, and probably a few that helped illustrate she was losing her grip on her sanity, which you hopefully still see.” [via USA Today].
