Oscars Bill Nighy S Living Performance Is Sublime World Of Reel

Oliver Hermanus’ remake of Kurosawa’s “Ikiru” could have easily been botched, but there’s something spiritually uplifting about this retelling of the familiar story. The direction is purposely subdued and patiently executed. It’s a contemplative character study that gets to the spirit of Kurosawa’s masterpiece. With “The Son” bombing with critics, “Living” will probably be Sony Pictures Classics top priority. This is a well-liked film that will continue to get positive word-of-mouth and more people will be seeing it in the weeks and months to come....

Oscars Is House Of Gucci A Serious Best Picture Contender World Of Reel

In my 11.22.21 semi-positive review of “House of Gucci,” I wrote: “In the end, what we have is an epic about how the Gucci family business gradually went downhill in the ’80s and ’90s, and how the daughter of a truck driver managed to be responsible for that downfall. By definition, “Gucci” is a fascinating wreck of a movie solely due to its tonally schizoid nature. It’s never boring, but so out of touch with reality that you at times wonder if Scott is in on the joke....

Paranormal Activity Should Look To Aim Series With A Bang World Of Reel

One of The Most Successful Horror Franchises For example, Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul is an incredibly popular Oculus Rift VR game, that has players fully immersed into the poltergeist-ridden world of the films. It seems only natural that this style of film be incorporated into this format, as it follows the path of other franchises such as The Exorcist. Furthermore, another telling indication of a film’s popularity in the modern era is whether it has been made into a slot game....

Polanski Sues Ampas World Of Reel

Polanski’s attorney Harland Braun had this to say to Variety: “We are litigating the fairness of their procedure. They threw him out without warning and without giving him a chance to respond. There was not even any notice of why. After 40 years, on the same day as [Bill] Cosby. Give me a break.” Academy to Variety: “The procedures taken to expel Mr. Polanski were fair and reasonable. The Academy stands behind its decision as appropriate,” a spokesperson said....

Taika Waititi S Next Goal Wins Moved Again To September 2023 Release World Of Reel

Taika Waititi’s “Next Goal Wins,” starring Michael Fassbender and Elisabeth Moss, was moved to next April 21, 2023 as a release date. Now it’s been moved again, for the umpteenth time, to a September 22nd date. Final? Presumably this is the last schedule change for Waititi’s film. It’ll most probably have its world premiere at TIFF with that cozy date. That’s most likely why the change occurred. This means that “Next Goal Wins” will be released much more than three years since production wrapped....

Tarantino Says Christopher Nolan S Dunkirk Is His 2 Movie Of The Decade World Of Reel

On the most recent episode of The Rewatchables, none other than Quentin Tarantino stopped by to discuss Christopher Nolan’s “Dunkirk.” Tarantino explains that a third rewatch of Nolan’s WWI film catapulted it into the #2 slot on his Best if the Decade list. “It wasn’t until that third time where I was gauging it for [my best of the decade list], that I could finally see past the spectacle into the people, into the people of the story....

Terry Gilliam Working On New Ambitious Film Tackling God Satan Adam Eve World Of Reel

Gilliam already talked about it last september in this Ukrainian interview. Also, Gilliam says that he’s working with a “young screenwriter” that the script is nearly finished. Add in the fact that in a recent French interview he revealed that the budget for this film would be around 30 million dollars and you have the makings of a possible new film. Bless Gilliam’s rebellious heart, to even think of such an out-there premise like this one requires a filmmaker as oddly eccentric (and visionary) as him....

The Hype Surrounding A Star Is Born Will Be Detrimental To Its Oscar Chances World Of Reel

The film really does start off magnificently well, Cooper and Gaga act at their own marvelously-paced rhythm, the pacing lets the characters breathe and the direction is commendably delivered, not to mention the wonderful acting from, of all people, Andrew Dice Clay as Gaga’s father. However, the second half is a real slug. “A Star is Born” lost me when the fame switches from Cooper’s country rock star to Gaga’s pop-star diva....

The Late Peter Fonda Star Of Easy Rider And Icon Of Counterculture World Of Reel

I wasn’t old enough to experience the counter-culture movement that was happening in the U.S. between 1966-1969, but I do know that Fonda played a key role in being its face by way of cinema. There was Roger Corman‘s “The Wild Angels” (’66)/”The Trip” (’67) and then, of course, Fonda, Dennis Hopper and Jack Nicholson’s groundbreaking “Easy Rider.” With the latter film, the major studios realized that money could be made from low-budget indie statements made by “hip” new directors....

Tom Hanks Peaked Between 92 And 02 But Please Let S Not Hate The Ladykillers World Of Reel

Hanks actually had an incredible streak of performances and films starting, yes, in 1992 but ending in 2002 NOT 1999. During that time, Hanks was untouchable, he received four Oscar nominations and won the Best Actor statuette twice. If it weren’t for the fact that there was clear Oscar fatigue in regards to Hanks basically owning the Oscars all throughout the ‘90s, he would have probably also gotten nominated for 2001’s “Catch Me If You Can” and 2002’s “Road to Perdition....

Tom Hooper S Cats May Not Be Ready In Time For Awards Season World Of Reel

That’s what IndieWire’s Anne Thompson is reporting today, as it appears that “Cats” will be blowing off multiple awards deadlines including the New York Film Critics Circle and National Board of Review, and could only be finished on-time to screen for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (Golden Globes). Does this sudden delay have anything to do with the lackluster trailer released earlier this summer? I don’t know, but the negative response the trailer got must have certainly irked the studio to no end....

Rain Man (1988) One of the earliest casino films on this list, ‘Rain Man’ is a heart-warming film starring Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise. The plot centres around an autistic man and his brother and their cross-country car trip. Along the way, they stop in Las Vegas for some gambling. Variety Believes Oscar Voters Should Take Full Responsibility And Nominate She Said World Of Reel

Davis is basically saying that the Academy has a responsibility to nominate the Harvey Weinstein movie, regardless of quality. Or, how about, “Hollywood publication writes that Hollywood movie about Hollywood scandal forces Hollywood to take responsibility for scandal”. Jesus, Clayton. Yes, Weinstein is in jail, but this is basically a plea for the industry to be on the right side of history and nominate an undeserving film (yes, I’ve seen it)....

The San Sebastián Film Festival revealed their competition lineup yesterday. Of note, the world premieres of Christophe Honore’s “Le Lyceen,” Ulrich Seidl’s “Sparta,” and Hong Sang-soo’s “Walk Up” (the latter a European premiere) — all three rejected by Venice. I’m getting more Telluride intel, this one concerning Scott Cooper’s “Pale Blue Eye” which will be having its world premiere over there. This all means we can scratch off more titles from our “What’s Left?...

Woody Allen S Former Teenage Girlfriend Defends Their 70S Relationship He Was 41 She Was 17 World Of Reel

As mentioned, Woody’s relationship with Engelhardt inspired Mariel Hemingway‘s character Tracy in “Manhattan.” Of note, Woody biographers also claim Stacey Nelkin, who hooked up with Woody when she was a Stuyvesant High School student in ’77, was the other inspiration. Notice that neither she nor Nelkin have ever characterized their hookups with Allen as anything less than consensual. So what gives? Given the context that this relationship with Engelhardt started in the ’70s, which had a whole different set of rules when it came to wrongs and rights in relationships, the notion that you can apply this story in a #MeToo context is a little bewildering and far-reaching....

Woody Allen Says He S Done Everything That The Metoo Movement Would Love To Achieve World Of Reel

“I’ve worked with hundreds of actresses [and] not one of them has ever complained about me, not a single complaint,” said Allen. “I’ve worked with, employed women in the top capacity, in every capacity, for years and we’ve always paid them exactly the equal of men. I’ve done everything that the #MeToo movement would love to achieve.” Allen actually just finished production on his most recent film, starring Christoph Waltz, and says he has started work on another entirely new script — so the idea of being “blacklisted” to him seems like a rather silly concept: “I couldn’t care less,” admitted the filmmaker....
