For all the complaints that the first installment of the new trilogy was using the same blueprint as 1977’s “A New Hope,” it ended up being the most universally well-liked film of the three chapters. He proved it in Paul Thomas Anderson’s indisputably great “Punch-Drunk Love,” and again in Noah Baumbach’s “The Meyerowitz Stories.” But you better get ready for his performance in The Safdie Brothers’ “Uncut Gems.” This is Sandler at, not only his best, but his rawest. He’s a ticking time bomb waiting to explode....

I remember Gilroy’s satire of the Los Angeles art scene being a crushing disappointment about morally depraved high-brow art dealers. It somewhat started off in deliciously satirical and witty ways but eventually devolved into a mindless slasher film. However, my major quibble with the film was how Gilroy centered his entire plot on such an easy target. The art world has been ridiculed so many times on and off the screen that it should be kept more as a punchline than an unnecessary 2 hour movie....

It was announced earlier this afternoon that the World Premiere of David Lowery’s “The Green Knight,” a fantasy re-telling of the medieval story of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Sam Mendes’ Golden Globe-winning drama opened to a very impressive $36.5M domestically and $20M internationally, not only sending it to number one on this week’s box office chart but also coming at a fantastic time for the film’s Oscar chances, as it is expected to claim around 9/10 nominations come Monday morning. Slipping to second place for the first time since it debuted is Disney’s soon to be seventh billion-dollar film of 2019 “Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker”....

The film, about Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood clinic director-turned-pro-life advocate, had a per-screen average of $2,111 this weekend, a stat only surpassed by “Shazam,” which took the top spot with a $53M opening weekend. A rather disappointing opening for a well-reviewed DCEU movie which was supposed to make much more. Back to “Unplanned,” audience support seems to be very strong for it, with word of mouth on social media and an astounding A+ rating from CinemaScore making the case for Hollywood to make more films that the Bible-belt of this country can adhere to....

Cooper, who directs the film, confirmed [via The Playlist] that it is being slotted for a fall 2023 release date, probably smack dab in the middle of the Telluride/Venice/Toronto storm. Production on the film sounds taxing, it’ll probably be more than a few months before they wrap shooting. ‘Darling’ has vision and sheer chutzpah. Wilde, for all the negative things I might have said about her previous film, knows how to frame and build suspense. The twist is also whipsmart, and makes you reevaluate the entire film. Of course, the bad buzz got to many critics and the results are terrible reviews. A 48 on Metacritic and 35% on Rotten Tomatoes. One critic who seems unshaded by the hive is the New Yorker’s Richard Brody, who is absolutely RAVING about “Don’t Worry Darling....
