Scorsese and De Niro have vehemently insisted on a theatrical release for the movie, possibly a 2-4 week window, before its streaming release on Netflix. We were the first to report the supposed November 27th release date the film had on its schedule. It is set to world premiere at the New York Film Festival in early October. However, today we can add another film festival to its itinerary, none other than The BFI London Film Festival, which will have the film premiere just two days after its New York homecoming. According to ScreenDaily, the BFI London Film Festival will screen “The Irishman” as the event’s closing night film on October 13: “This picture was many years in the making,” said Scorsese....

Now, Williams has to go up against the mighty Cate Blanchett, whose performance in “TAR” is total brilliance, and Michelle Yeoh in “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” They’ve both been winning awards these last few weeks, not not Williams. Further proof, writer Michael Stewart has broken down the screentime for each individual player in “The Fabelmans.” The film is 152 minutes long and Williams just has 52 minutes of screentime....

The film will be directed by Marielle Heller (“Diary of a Teenager Girl,” “Can You Ever Forgive Me?”) with Universal in charge of releasing it on 10.18.19. I do wonder how this will go down as far as the dramatic potential a film about such a benign man could bring. Did Rogers have any actual drama happen in his life? He was, by all accounts, a safe, liberal-minded do-gooder that didn’t have controversy surround him in his 40+ years on the air....

“Glass Onion” has also started streaming on Netflix, it’s still their de facto strongest shot at a Best Picture nomination. However, if enough voters are willing to watch the brutally graphic 142 minute WWI-set “All Quiet on the Western Front” then it could get nominated instead. It’s my current choice to win Best International Film. It’s been a very messy awards campaign for Netflix. Based on their FYC website, their top four priorities are Glass Onion, White Noise, Pinocchio, and The Good Nurse....

Del Toro told audience members that the film was, “10 minutes from being finished’, and that crews are currently working on 60 different sets at once to get the film done in time." according to Screen Daily. Despite all that, I was told at Cannes that “Pinocchio” won’t be doing the fall festivals. Of course, that could all change if Netflix are so confident with what they have that they decide to unveil it 4 months prior to release, but the odds are very low....

Variety’s Clayton Davis is more or less in agreement with what I consider to be the current top 5: Butler, Jackman, Nighy, Fraser, Driver. Actually, Clayton has ‘Bardo’ actor Daniel Giménez Cacho in there instead of Adam Driver (his #6). The problem with “Bardo” and its lead is that we just don’t really know if that movie is any good. The fact that NYFF didn’t select Inarritu’s film means that it might not be favoured by the high-brows and its absence from TIFF might mean it’ll be too ambitious for the low-brows....
