Oscar Shortlists Announced Everything Everywhere All At Once Snubbed In Vfx And Makeup Categories World Of Reel

There’s a lot to sift through here, so I’ll try to be as concise as possible. These are the five main takeaways from this afternoon’s announcement:

No “Good Night Oppy” and “SR.” in the Documentary category.“Alcarras” Snubbed from International Feature.“Everything Everywhere All At Once” misses Makeup and Visual Effects. It did however get included in Score, Song and Sound.Taylor Swift’s short film “All Too Well” does not appear in the Shorts category. The Academy didn’t take the bait. Congrats.“All Quiet on the Western Front” overperformed on today’s Oscar shortlists, even while Netflix has mainly been pushing “Glass Onion” and “Pinocchio”. Maybe it’s time to reevaluate its chances re: a Best Picture nomination.

EEAAO missing VFX is something that needs to be paid attention to. That should’ve been a locked nomination. It could be a red flag that there isn’t necessarily universal love for the film, or I’m just looking too much into it, but I hope it’s the former.
