Ali Abbasi’s new film came out of nowhere. In 2018, his debut “Border” was heavily celebrated in the Un Certain Regard category. A lot of people predicted his next feature could crack official competition, maybe “Holy Spider” will, it all depends on its quality. If you remember, after his stunning debut “Son of Saul,” Laszlo Nemes’ follow-up, “Sunset,” got rejected by Cannes and eventually premiered at Venice.
