Despite not being a critical darling, Maïwenn has been a mainstay of the fest for quite a few years now, her last three films (DNA, Mon Roi and Polisse) all screened at the fest. I doubt Cannes boss Thierry Fremaux would really care if Depp stars in a competition film next year. It seems like an overwhelming amount of the French have sided with Depp who has an admired history with the country, especially after his marriage with French actress Vanessa Paradis.
