It could maybe go to the New York Film Festival (pure speculation), but I’m thinking a big splashy AFI premiere is more likely. Netflix is distributing this one, so you just know there’s going to be a big awards machine backing it up. One thing I find fascinating about this ‘Pinocchio’ adaptation, which just released a trailer, is that it’s set just before the rise of Fascism in pre-WWII Italy. Del Toro’s Pinocchio is recruited by the military, because the fascists believe if this puppet cannot die, he would make the perfect soldier. “Pinocchio” features voice work from an all-star ensemble cast that includes Ewan McGregor, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Christoph Waltz, and Tilda Swinton. Set to skip the September festivals: Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” David O. Russell’s “Amsterdam”, and Damien Chazelle’s “Babylon” and Guillermo Del Toro’s “Pinocchio.” Contribute Hire me
