Glenn Close is an eight-time Oscar nominee with, for now, zero wins. She is now tied with Pete O’Toole for the most Oscar nominations with no wins. However, Close may very well nab that Oscar with her eighth nomination as she is one of the five nominated in the Supporting Actress category for her role in “Hillbilly Elegy.” This comes mere days after Close was nominated for the same role at the Razzies. She only becomes the third person to “accomplish” the feat. James Coco (Only When I Laugh) and Amy Irving (Yentl) were previously nominated for both Oscars and Razzies for the same performance in 1982 and 1984 You can hate on “Hillbilly Elegy” all you want, but Close’s performance felt authentic to my eyes and ears. Whoever nominated her for a Razzie clearly did so with a political mindset. You see, people think Hillbilly Elegy is a right-wing statement because its author is a Libertarian (only in 2020/21 can this happen), so all involved must be punished. It’s an absurd way of seeing things but is, sadly, the way many operate these days on media platforms. Close will compete against Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm), Olivia Colman (The Father), Amanda Seyfried (Mank), and Yuh-Jung Youn (Minari) for Best Supporting Actress. She may very well win. Contribute Hire me
