Although officially planned for an October and November 2019 release in the UK and the U.S. respectively, the movie is now expected to be released on the 3rd April of 2020 in UK cinemas and will hit the States five days later, on April 8th. One of the main reasons for the pushback is due to director Danny Boyle unexpectedly quitting the project a mere few weeks before shooting was to begin. Boyle allegedly cited “creative differences” and a dispute over the portrayal of the villain. “True Detective” and “Maniac” director Cary Fukunaga has taken the reigns, so we’re fairly certain that the movie is in good hands. Enter “No Time to Die,” the highly anticipated 25th film in the franchise and Daniel Craig’s final outing as 007 and quite possibly the one that could dictate the future of this franchise. The film finds Bond living in Jamaica, having retired from MI6 when a familiar face in former CIA agent Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright) draws him back into service. Lashana Lynch is being rumored as the next 007 in Fukunaga’s upcoming film. Lynch (who stole the show in “Captain Marvel”) is set to play MI6 agent Nomi, who is supposed to be shadowing a near-retired Bond (Daniel Craig). There is some backlash stemming from Nomi potentially taking over Bond’s 007 code number in “Bond 25” and beyond. So, now, we will be hearing people complain that 007 should not only be white, but male as well. The future of Bond will be a fiercely debated one. For the time being, we have this official synopsis and a just-released trailer: “In No Time To Die, Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.” Craig and Rami Malek (playing the villain) will be joined by actors Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Rory Kinnear, Léa Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, Jeffrey Wright, Ana de Armas, Dali Benssalah, David Dencik, Lashana Lynch, and Billy Magnussen in the film. “No Time to Die” will be released on April 8, 2020.
