Writer Sergio Sanchez attended this morning’s screening and posted his reaction on Twitter. “Today I saw Almodovar’s #MadresParalelas. It is splendid. Discover it without being told anything, which will be complicated because a lot will be written about this jewel. Penelope Cruz and Aitana Sánchez-Gijón are wonderful, but watch out for Milena Smit” In anticipation of the latest Almodovar oeuvre, the lovely Anne Bilson over at The Guardian has ranked every movie of his from worst to best. His meta masterpiece “Pain and Glory” tops the list. However, more curiously, 2016’s “Julieta,” which garnered mixed reviews but was championed by Cahiers du Cinema, figures in the top 3. My Almodovar top 10: “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown”, “Talk to Her”, “Broken Embraces”, “The Skin I Live In,” “Pain and Glory” “All About My Mother,” “Bad Education,” “Volver,” “Julieta” and his upcoming “Parallel Mothers.” “Madres Paralelas” is set to World Premiere at the Venice Film Festival in early September and will be released In the U.S. on December 24th.
