Swift is now, puzzlingly, going to be featured in Variety’s annual Directors on Directors series with filmmaker Martin McDonagh, despite having not directed any feature films (just a music video). Swift was given the spot over many reputed filmmakers. The entire variety lineup this year includes James Cameron, Francis Ford Coppola, Ryan Coogler and Sarah Polley. The Variety series has two directors — typically, who’ve both released projects in the past year — given the opportunity to interview one another about their careers. Purely based on this clip, the McDonagh/Swift conversation is going to have its fair share of cringe-worthy moments. I don’t know if I’ll be able to suffer through the whole 20 minute conversation when it gets released this coming week. Swift talking about blue-glitter-blood metaphors with a straight face, while McDonagh tries to take her seriously, is a bit too much for me. McDonagh is there to discuss his brilliant “The Banshees of Inisherin.” Taylor will be there to discuss “All Too Well: The Short Film” — the 15-minute music video starring Dylan O’Brien and Sadie Sink that she directed to accompany the release of a new song.
