The UPDATED Cannes 2023 list I have so far includes potential new films by Wes Anderson, Woody Allen, Ari Aster, Jonathan Glazer, Todd Haynes, Alexander Payne, Paolo Sorrentino, Lynne Ramsay, Yorgos Lanthimos, Alice Rohrwacher, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Robin Campillo, Bruno Dumont, Abdherrane Sissako, Justine Triet, Bertrand Bonello, Mateo Garrone, Ken Loach, Maiwenn, Nani Moretti, Jeff Nichols, Aki Kaurismaki, Marco Bellocchio, Terrence Malick, Jessica Hausner, Sofia Coppola, Kirill Serebrennikov, Catherine Breillat and Michel Franco. That’s 27. Am I missing any? Fremaux might have a dilemma next year due to Woody Allen and Roman Polanski potentially having new films ready for the Croisette. Fremaux has defended both filmmakers in the past, but not without getting backlash for it.
