It is looking more and more like the 2020 Cannes Film Festival will be canceled, especially after French President Emmanuel Macron’s announcement today of an extended ban in France for all public events, including festivals, until mid-July. Yikes. Will the 73rd annual Cannes Film Festival be canceled for the first time since a ‘60s social protest, led by Truffault and Godard, slammed the doors shut for the event? The festival was supposed to take place this year from May 12-May 23, but, due to the coronavirus pandemic, festival organizers pushed it to a potential “late June to early July” happening.
