They finally got with the program. “Elvis” has entered the top ten (as it should have months ago). “The Fabelmans” is the de facto frontrunner. “Everything Everywhere All At Once” is their #2, but I much prefer “The Banshees of Inisherin” in that spot — it’s the only film I can think of that can dethrone ‘Fabelmans’ come Oscar night. Because it’s been such a weak year, we’re assuming that “Babylon” and “Avatar: The Way of Water” will make it. The former has screened, but reviews will make-or-break it, especially since it’s so far had a polarizing reaction. Meanwhile, James Cameron’s sequel would have to majorly disappoint not to get in … What about “Women Talking”? A movie that not everybody likes, but it’ll play big with the female contingent of Oscar voters, which is definitely a minority of the voting pool. I wouldn’t be shocked if it misses, but I have it in my predictions for now. Considering the amount of ink that’s been spilled about the concerning numbers at the box-office, it’d be such a farce if “Top Gun: Maverick” doesn’t make it in. It will. Almost a sure thing. As for “TÁR,” it’s the critical darling and is a shoo-in to make it, but it won’t make a dent beyond that. It won’t win, but a nomination is imminent. Contribute Hire me
