They also list Terrence Malick’s “The Way of the Wind,” which I tackled earlier this afternoon, as being released this year. So, maybe we will finally see that movie before the end of 2022
There’s no “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” As much as I was mixed on that movie, there is no denying that it was critically-acclaimed, and did well at the box-office (not to mention will probably finish top 3 in our annual mid-year critics poll next week).
No “Top Gun: Maverick” either.
And yet, what’s the justification behind “The Northman,” “Three Thousand Years of Longing” and ”The Stars at Noon” being on this list? There is none. Of course, it’s way too early to speculate, but these films have already been seen.
If we actually are in the game of speculating-without-having-seen-Oscar-contenders, then these 10 are my blind picks for a 2023 Best Picture nomination:
Steven Spielberg’s “The Fablemans,” Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” Damien Chazelle’s “Babylon,” Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s “Bardo,” Martin McDonagh’s “The Banshees of Inisherin,” Florian Zeller’s “The Son,” Todd Field’s “TAR” David Fincher’s “The Killer” and Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon”
Keep in mind, I have no idea if Fincher and Scott’s films will be ready by December.
