Miller is now developing the ‘Furiosa’ prequel film and has already begun assembling his cast. First up, taking on Charlize Theron’s role of Furiosa will be Anya Taylor-Joy [via Variety]. Joining her in the cast will be Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in unspecified roles. Details about the plot are still unknown, but this ‘Furiosa’ prequel will focus on the early days of the character, and how she grew to be the war captain under Immortan Joe. Taylor-Joy is well known to indie film fans as the lead actress in films such as “The Witch,” “Thoroughbreds,” Split,” and this year’s “Emma.” The film is set to be directed by Miller, who co-wrote the script with Nick Lathouris. Both men worked on ‘Fury Road’ together. The Variety report claims that production on the film is set to start in 2021. Miller is 73-years-old, and the further it is delayed, the more unlikely Miller would have the stamina and willingness to embark on making a “Mad Max” sequel, which is a physically demanding endeavor. Before COVID-19 hit, Miller was in the middle of directing “Three Thousand Years of Longing,“ a romantic sci-fi epic starring Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba. Miller penned the script, but plot details for that film have also been kept secret. As you may very well know, “Mad Max: Fury Road” topped our critics poll of the best movies of the 2010s.Over 300 critics participated in the survey and, really, this kickstarted the film’s total domination of decade lists for the rest of the year, including also topping the AV Club, Consequence of Sound, Film School Rejects, and Paste lists.
