I’ve spoken to a contact from Warner Bros. who says they are monitoring the COVID situation quite intensely and that no decision has been made yet about “The Batman’s” release. However, if the first few theatrical months of 2022 are still very much at a free fall due to Omicron, a summer date has already been chosen for “The Batman.” The peak of the new Omicron variant hasn’t even arrived yet. There will most likely be a ton of restrictions on movie theatres in the big cities come early next year, New York City hit a pandemic-high amount of daily cases today and Los Angeles is not too far behind. Without those two markets, Hollywood shuts down. Again, there’s no way around the inevitable winter we’re about to have, unless media coverage around this variant changes, we are likely headed into a dark winter filled with restrictions in the U.S. Yes, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” is doing great at the box-office, a mass number of moviegoers are flocking to go see it, but the worst hasn’t even come yet in terms of cases and restrictions.
