I wouldn’t complain if it ends up being a serious Oscar contender come awards season. It’s the kind of narrative the Academy pays attention to: the first major indie film success of the pre-pandemic era, and this coming from a well-respected independent studio like A24. Michelle Yeoh could also nab a Best Actress nomination. As it keeps chugging along at the box-office, “Everything, Everywhere All At Once” isn’t quite losing steam just yet either. The A24 release is set to cross the $44 million dollar mark by Monday, all this on a $25 million budget. That’ll be enough for it to surpass “Hereditary” ($44 million) and become A24’s third-biggest domestic earner. If the momentum continues then it can maybe get ahead of A24’s all-time stalwarts “Lady Bird” ($49 million) and “Uncut Gems” ($50 million). It’s doable. There is nothing significantly blockbuster-ish getting released in the coming weeks, at least not until “Top Gun: Maverick” is launched on Memorial Day weekend. The cumulative gross total for “Everything Everywhere All at Once” doesn’t even include foreign territories, where it has expanded in droves the last week or so.
