As much as I was mixed on the movie, “Everything Everywhere All At Once” is going to get a Best Picture nomination. You can lock that up in the bank. The film was released 5 months ago, but people are still talking about it and it’s still making money at the box-office. Jodie Foster is also a major fan, so much so that she was willing to call it her “favourite movie of the last 20 years.” Talk about hyperbole. Hey, don’t get me wrong, I’m sure it is her fave of the last two decades, but what am I missing here? Why are people having their minds blown over this messy and frantic film? Maybe Foster hasn’t seen many movies these last 20 years. Regardless, if you remember, she compared superhero movies to “fracking,” so at least this is one multiverse-oriented film that she actually loves. Suffice to say, I’ve never seen this many actors/filmmakers gushing over a film since … ever? You can add Foster’s name to other superfans, which include Miles Teller, Riz Ahmed, Sian Heder, Guillermo del Toro, Scott Derrickson, Sam Rockwell, Edgar Wright, SZA, Andrew Garfield, Reese Whitherspoon, Kogonada, Keke Palmer, Barry Jenkins, Lilly Wachowski, Florence Pugh and Mike Flanagan. ‘Everything Everywhere’ topped our mid-year critics poll last month, appearing on 40% of the lists submitted. It’s also an indie smash at the box-office, and A24’s highest-grossing movie of all-time with a cumulative intake of $66 million.
