On its first day of opening, “Don’t Worry Darling” was the victim of another hit-piece, this one courtesy of Vulture. The gist of the report involves Florence Pugh and Olivia Wilde getting into a “screaming match” on the set of the film, with Miss Flo so mad that she told then-Warner Bros boss Toby Emmerich she wasn’t going to promote the film. Now for the good news, it might just be the huge turnout from Harry Styles fans, but “Don’t Worry Darling” did mighty well on Thursday. It’ll easily land at the top of the weekend box-office come Sunday evening. Preview showings resulted in $3.1 million at the box-office for Wilde’s film, a lot more than anyone could have predicted. The reviews have been nasty and even Razzie-worthy — 36% on Rotten Tomatoes! The film is looking at a possible $20-25 million weekend. The film’s budget is said to be at about that range as well. Sometimes, controversy and bad reviews will sink a film, but it seems to have actually helped Wilde’s. If you compare these numbers to her first feature, “Booksmart,” which made a total of $25 million during its entire 2019 run, then you can imagine auteur extraordinaire Wilde will probably be given another shot at directing in the near future.
