A Best Picture nomination is now officially in the conversation for ‘The Way of Water.’ There’s really no other way of putting it. We just have a very weak slate of contending films this year. Also, this is the type of movie that will make money, get good reviews and have a narrative built around people going back to theaters. It’s a movie event and the industry desperately wants (and needs) to support that. I’m only set to watch it next Monday. There is a review embargo set until Tuesday, December 13th at noon (the day prior the Golden Globe nominations are announced). However, social media reactions are allowed today after 6pm ET.
