What I don’t get is that Netflix’s people were telling us, less than two weeks ago, that it wouldn’t be done until October. Some pundits were told the same thing. So, after a few emails sent out, apparently, “White Noise” will be screened for Telluride during the first week of August. It’s “ready,” they say, and you can keep the quotations on there. What changed? I wouldn’t be surprised if Netflix does what they did with “Blonde” and pulls it out of Venice in the last minute, the film just didn’t sound ready at all....

That’s Cannes for you. Where cinema is treated as a devoted passion and not even a pandemic can prevent the event from happening. Oh oui, zee French. For the next ten days we will all be dining on four-course meals of quality cinema, not to mention pit stops at La Pizza, the famous Italian eatery that has been successfully operating as a business since the ‘50s. Of Course, Cannes is so much more than all of the above....

As for Walt Disney Pictures, well, they’re not fucking around and for good reason, especially since director Niki Caro’s live-action remake of “Mulan” was set to make very big money overseas and especially in China. Slated for a March 27th release in the U.S. and globally March 26th, Caro’s film has a budget of over $200 million, which makes it the most expensive live-action film ever directed by a female filmmaker....
