As you might imagine, given the amount I’ve written on the topic, I find the Best Actress category to be the most fascinating one of this year’s Oscar race. There is absolutely no frontrunner. The trusts and turns have been aplenty, and for a moment there, I thought maybe Lady Gaga could win the damn thing. I was proven wrong this morning. Now I’m thinking it’s not such a far-fetched opinion to believe that Stewart can pull off the win....

Just randomly picking the 07.14.23 date is strange enough, which tells me RT might have possibly been told a new Scorsese was being released on that date. This was posted on Dec 1st 2022 and apparently no one at RT noticed the false info. I’m sure now that I’ve written something about it they’ll correct and edit. The Gambler James Toback based a screenplay for this movie on his own experience. Being an addict, he was obsessed with gambling. The Gambler tells a story of a man who is in danger of complete self-destruction because of playing casino games. The main character called Alex keeps losing in betting, so he digs himself deeper and deeper into trouble without being able to stop. In “Ad Astra,” Gray has Astronaut Roy McBride (Brad Pitt) travelling to the far reaches of space, from the moon to Neptune, to find his missing dad (Tommy Lee Jones), a legendary astronaut who left on a deep-space voyage some 30 years ago and never returned. McBride’s mission, a top-secret one assigned by the militarized section of NASA, is not only to find Pops, but to also unearth the cause of a mysterious blast which has killed thousands on earth, nicknamed the “surge” — is his dad responsible for committing this tragedy?...

An interesting excerpt from the Deadline article, reiterating my belief that Margot Robbie’s performance is the real deal (unless the Deadline writer just read it here): This release date change springs of confidence. “Babylon” is currently set to open just a week before “Avatar: The Way of Water” is released. Oddly enough, this is the same date “Glass Onion” will be available to stream on Netflix. For the week leading into Christmas, there are four wide releases to keep an eye on: “Women Talking”, “Babylon”, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and “Puss in Boots 2....

Much to her surprise, Zora does end up giving Anna the promotion that she always wanted, but under one condition: she has to replace her beautiful afro hair with a straight-haired weave. Bad idea. The weave turns out to have a mind of its own, attacking anyone who gets in Anna’s way. The satirical and poignantly topical first half of “Bad Hair” is much more successful than the second half; in fact, both feel like drastically different movies....

With that being said, BigScreenLeaks is saying that the runtime is much shorter than they had originally been told. Maybe Disney is sparing us a bit here. Imagine an extra half hour of this thing. This makes “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” the second longest MCU movie ever, right behind “Avengers Endgame” (181 minutes). I’m praying to the high heavens that this doesn’t get overrated like the first one, which was a semi-decent Marvel film with, to its name, that laughable SAG win and Best Picture nomination....

The white guy who narrates ‘Bodied’ is a Berkeley grad student named Adam Merkin (Calum Worthy). Despite his whiteness, Adam has a rather scholarly knowledge of rap battles; in fact, he’s even working on a thesis paper about poetry and the social justice aspects of the ‘game.’ His insistingly uninterested, and politically correct, girlfriend Maya (Rory Uphold) follows him around, but doesn’t approve of the battles, which she deems as sexist and violence-promoting....
