After triumphantly stripping down his narrative with “Dunkirk,” Nolan is ready for his next film, set to be released in 2020. There is not yet a title or plot for his next film, let alone a cast, but a Production Weekly tweet called it a “romantic thriller, like “‘North by Northwest’ in tone meets ‘Inception,’” Nolan did mention that he’s “about to start shooting” his next project, which has a release date of July 17, 2020....

Well then, there’s a nice little tidbit of news that we got today, an actual description of the plot. THR is reporting that Nolan’s upcoming as-of-yet untitle, film will be an adventure spanning the globe that involves the time continuum, while also sharing some similarities with “Inception.” There had been rumors of possible “North By Northwest” meets “Inception” influences. This description fits right into that mold. Time continuum being mentioned means that there would most likely be time travel involved, probably taking place in numerous countries....

George Clooney’s “The Tender Bar” screened for BAFTA, DGA and select film critics on Saturday and Sunday evening. I saw “Nightmare Alley” a couple of days ago. It’s very digital looking. They didn’t seem to even try to put a “film” aesthetic look to it. The aspect ratio was also a little off and should have been 4:3 — del Toro was using very wide lenses for his shots. Of course, it could still look good in black and white, a lot of the production design matched the 1947 version....

We should all be up in arms about this. Panahi didn’t even get a trial, he was just sentenced straight to prison. Where’s due process? Where are his human rights? Panahi was protesting outside the jail, and basically got kidnapped by Iranian authorities. Iran is claiming he’s being locked up for “anti-government activity.” Panahi has a film called “No Bears” that’s set to premiere at Venice in September. If I were Venice boss Alberto Barbera, I’d pull out all the stops and turn the premiere into a massive political protest....

Campion has been around since the ‘80s, delivering great movies such as “Sweetie,” “An Angel at the Table,” and “The Piano” — the latter she could have won the Oscar for if it weren’t for that being the year of Spielberg and “Schindler’s List.” Lo and behold, notice who is Campion’s toughest competitor for this year’s race … Steven Spielberg directed the hell out of “West Side Story” and one can imagine another Campion vs Spielberg bout occurring again almost 20 years to the day they last faced off....

The film finds Bond living in Jamaica, having retired from MI6 when a familiar face in former CIA agent Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright) draws him back into service....

The Zemeckis has been relegated to Disney Plus on September 8th and not to theaters. If they want to qualify for the Oscars, “Pinocchio” has to be released in theaters. It doesn’t look like that is happening. The film, starring Hanks, Cynthia Erivo, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Keegan Michael Key, and Luke Evans, has just released a trailer. “The Son” has been given a “content warning” from TIFF: “The Son” and “The Whale” only have have 1 regular (non-premium) public screening each. The fact that neither is going to Telluride and NYFF makes it all the more strange. These will be the only North American screenings for both films.
